Sauna Timber and Finishes: Questions to Ask Before Ordering

Timber gives a sauna much of its visual character, but a wood name alone does not describe the complete room. Walls, benches, cladding and structural parts may use different materials. Compare those components separately and confirm the finish offered for your chosen configuration.
Ask which material is used where
Request a component list identifying the timber used for interior walls, benches, exterior cladding and other visible parts. Ask whether the photographed room represents the same material combination as the quotation.
If a description uses a broad term such as natural wood, ask for a more specific material specification. Avoid assuming the entire cabin is made from one timber species because one part is described that way.
Review a representative sample
Photographs are useful for comparing the overall design, but lighting and screens can change the appearance of colour and grain. Ask about samples or close-up photographs of the actual finish under neutral lighting.
Natural variation should be discussed before ordering. If a particular tone or grain appearance is important, identify that preference clearly and ask what can be confirmed for the finished room.
Separate interior and exterior finishes
Confirm which surfaces are finished, which are supplied untreated and what maintenance is required. Interior benches and exterior cladding should not be assumed to use the same treatment.
Ask for the recommended care instructions for each component. Do not choose a treatment solely because it matches the desired colour; verify its suitability for the intended surface and use.
Put the selection into the order
Record the agreed timber, finish and component details in the final specification. Identify any approved substitutions before production. A clear written selection is more useful than a mood-board image that does not define the supplied materials.
Compare available options for the exact model rather than assuming every finish can be applied to every cabin. If an option changes cost, timing or care requirements, include that in the decision.
Tell us your preferred timber appearance and we can discuss the documented material options for the room you are considering.
